Accadia, is a high end home for affluent senior citizens, and the actual site for my first job ever while still a teen, and unfortunately my first job that had terminated me as well, after only a couple of months employment. A couple of friends and I, from Mckinley High were on Accadia dining facility staff to bus and wait on tables.
It was due to Horse Play at the end of our shift one night, Stanley Sue and I were the guilty parties involved: pretending to NFL prospects in the main dining area. Those others that remained as Accadia staff members from Mckinley High School once Stanley and I moved on were: Andrew Salavea, Abe and Mau.
What also made Accadia obvious was the High School next door, Maryknoll High School! It left me with wretched memories of Peter Esaroma, and myself as an accomplice to Peters mischief to thievery of a faculty member's moped. We ended up joy riding this moped up Palolo Valley for a few hours before Peter was apprehended and booked. I made it home from the Valley, but not for long before the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) came knocking on our back door later that night; thanks to Peter Esaroma giving up my personal information during his interrogation process. Peter Esaroma, and I played in the same Palolo Valley youth baseball league together, and eventually ended up at Mckinley High School fighting for the starting spot at the fullback/half back positions for our Varsity Football Team.
Well Hearing Proceedings or a Settlement procedures involving the prosecuting attorney and his/her client or the owner of the moped, versus myself (my parents) and our defense attorney. It resulted with a settlement of Peter Esaroma to pursue a GED course within the Job Corps Program for the remainder of his time in High School. It was apparent that Peter missed more classes than attendance quotas allowed at Mckinley High. While I was to serve 3 hours every Saturday in a juvenile awareness crime prevention course, to fulfill or satisfy a certain amount community service hours. In addition to working at the former Dole Cannery in Dillingham as summer employment, to pay for all the damage expenses done to the moped stolen in this case.
I was told that Peter E. was off the varsity roster for good, while our Head Coach Sakai (HPD) gave me remainder of the season to stay out of trouble, otherwise I would've been off his roster just as Peter was. Peter unfortunately had an on going juvenile record, and it was obviously a second chance for me; one that I was not going to ruin, nonetheless let the wrath of my parents come down on me for my poor decision making in whom I associated with in High School back then.
So, the U-Turn through Accadia parking lot, but back some memories, unfortunately memories that I'm not proud to look back on. But yet memories nonetheless, that are lessons in life to grow and mature from. I am grateful that I did graduate and attained my High School Diploma, and not a GED from the Job Corps Program. I'm also grateful to still had been allowed to play High School Football for my final two varsity seasons as well.
Most Sincere,
Mickey Tovio Scanlan
